Reflections on a Saturday afternoon at Wembley

Silvestre: It's only a matter of time!

England - Slovenia – the Club Wembley Experience:
1. Food = 9/10, especially the Cornish Lamb in the pre-match meal, and the pies afterwards

2. Seats (on half way line, just above tunnel) = nice and padded, comfortable for a snooze

3. The football = rubbish:
• England’s first half performance = shapeless, no left side to speak of (the pigeons were undisturbed for most of it)
• Rooney wins a dodgy penalty again, going down too easily say some, fouling the defender says my friend down the phone
• Gerrard anonymous except for one shot on 36 minutes
• Substitutions livened it up a bit, but Lescott’s positioning for the Slovenia goal was shocking; £24mn? LOL
• Cashley named man of the match apparently; I want to give up.
• and the stadium announcer even tells us the score at the end, presumably because we have all been blinded by the brilliant football in front of us that we can’t read the scoreboard.  And he refers to the team as “Your England”!  Bizarre. Patronising more like

Would I buy a Club Wembley ticket? No, they are vastly overpriced, but thanks Stuart (at one of the banks we all now part own) very much for the invite.

And then I get home to hear Djourou is out for 6 months.  So we are two injuries away from the SS partnership at the back.  Senderos and Silvestre anyone?  Don’t know about you readers, but I for one can’t wait.  Good decision by our great leader not to buy another centre back. Inspired management in fact.  Time to hit the Merlot.
