So we’re going for all the trophies this season are we?

League Cup: Change of policy in manager’s approach?

I was looking through the program before kick off against Wigan in the Twelve Pins pub before the game. As usual I was reading Wenger's notes with pint in hand and one eye on the earlier kicked off game and a few things came to mind.

Firstly is the point about squad rotation, picking Eboue over Sagna in the Champions League game midweek. Wenger mentions that he has to do this as 'we are going for all the trophies'. Could this mean then that Tuesday's League Cup encounter could see a few more experienced players feature? With the manger being constantly reminded by the media and at shareholders meetings about the fact that the cup has saved money over the last few years on silver polish could he change his policy and try and really push for it, or use the youth FA cup winning side? Either way it's going to be an interesting game especially as West Brom took apart Middlesbrough 5-0 at the weekend.

Wenger also praises Vito Mannone's performance midweek 'showing calmness and composure'. Now Wenger and any manager for that matter is not going to start berating their own players in the matchday program or in some cases at all. But I think we missed a beat in the transfer window by not getting a more experienced keeper in. The good thing about Wednesday was that we were not playing Real or Barca. It would have been a nightmare. Hopefully with two games under his belt Vito's morale can grow and feel more comfortable in goal, but playing him in big games we have to come? The jury is still out on him to be honest.

Wenger also mentioned about cheating in the game and how we must all work together to stamp it out. Well everyone apart of Eboue I suppose. Handballing this week and diving the other. With players like that I suppose you can lead the horse to water...

The Arsenalisation redecoration project around and inside the stadium is really taking shape and it's nice to see the club listening to REDaction and the excellent work they do for the club. The new mural outside the ground is really impressive and a real eye opener for fans coming to the ground from the Arsenal and Finsbury Park tube stations. It’ll be interesting to see what else is going to be rolled out going forward. As a Gooner mostly attending games in the upper orange quadrant it would be nice to see something done in the future about the stairs going to the upper tiers. At present they do feel like you’re on your way to the upper levels of a car park and not one of the best looking stadia in Europe. They could put up some nice mini-murals or just a lick of paint here and there.

Also, as Kevin Whitcher of Gooner Towers has pointed out about Fabregas in the game, it does look rather worrying. He didn't even really celebrate his goal, looking more cheesed off than anything else. Hopefully he was just having an off day and not thinking about sunnier climes.

Also finally I cannot go without mentioning Adebayor. After the weekend he mentioned that he would like to play in the return fixture in April. Well if that is the case I can’t help but think what's going to happen. If a corner of the City of Manchester stadium giving him stick leads to a stamp on our captain and then kicking RVP in the face, God knows what a full Ashburton Grove giving him a hard time is going to do to him. Hopefully it will all be a bit too much and his big bullsh*te, money grabbing, egotistical head explodes all over the pitch. That would be worth paying to see.
