New stadium needs some glory before fans can start to appreciate it fully

Moving on is hard to do...

The transformation from the Arsenal Stadium to Highbury Square, pre-pitch area landscaping!

After my regular visit to the Gunners for a pre match pint or two before Wigan, I was fortunate enough, along with about 100 other Gooners, to gain access to Highbury. Just walking towards the “pitch” area started to bring so many memories flooding back. I stood where I believe the corner flag would be joining North Bank and East Stand. As I looked around all corners of the “ground” I realized that I couldn’t really see the modern fitted kitchenettes and IKEA showroom bedrooms. All I could really see was 38,000 Arsenal Fans, and a pristine, lush, snooker table of a pitch that was our beloved Highbury.

Walking onto the pitch was an even stranger feeling. All I could think about was the penalty spot and Thierry Henry kissing the turf after completing his hat-trick against Wigan. Standing on this most hallowed ground where some of the greatest players to grace football have played and not just those in Red and White, but some of the great players from all over the globe. So many great memories of Bergkamp, Adams, Wright, Seaman, Pires, Vieira, and of course Thierry. And that’s just my generation.

Ashburton is our home now. I love the new stadium and full marks to the club for trying to “Arsenalise” our new home. But it lacks something…

Silverware will bring us new memories to cherish. Hopefully this season will see the first pot paraded around the turf. Ashburton has been a cauldron of frustration for Arsenal fans since we moved in. This being the fourth year in our new home, hopefully under Wenger (congrats on 13 years!) we will see Cesc lift a trophy next Spring, and we can start to cut the emotional ties we all still have to the North Bank, Clock End, East and West Stands.
