Psssst… Wanna buy a seat from Highbury Stadium?

No names, no pack drill. Just a phone number and the chance to get one of those ‘life threatening’ seats

Psssst… Wanna buy a seat from Highbury Stadium?

Memories are made of this (sob!)

Onlinegooner has been contacted anonymously by someone who has managed to get hold of some seats from the old Highbury stadium. More than that we really can’t say because of a lack of knowledge, but after the Club raised everyone’s hopes by offering them for sale, before crushing them by withdrawing them due to their being unsafe in an indoor environment (something about the seats containing “very small amounts of the toxic metal cadmium", conveniently announced after May 7th), we feel guilty bound to give you the details of how you can buy one of these pieces of history.

The price you are looking at is around £40 (strictly cash!) including delivery, although that may go up if you live some distance from London or cannot make a rendezvous. Discuss it with the seller. Apparently, the seats are a mix of North Bank Upper & Lower, East Stand Lower (and a few East Upper).

Phone number for this once in a lifetime offer is 07794 559909.

And a final thought. If the using them inside the house danger was the reasoning for withdrawing the offer to buy the seats from the club, why didn’t they just state that they were for use in the garden only? That would have got them out of any future legal dilemmas. ‘What will you do with yours’ indeed. The facility to buy your seat online was discontinued due to ‘technical problems with the website’ before the deadline to buy from the club. When I phoned to enquire I was assured that the deadline was going to be extended due to this. What they really meant to say was that we can’t have you taking a spanner to your seat at the end of the Wigan match, just in case we don’t get the safety certificate straight away at Ashburton and need to play a few games at Highbury. Hmmmmm.

Incidentally, just for clarification, this is nothing to do with anyone connected with onlinegooner. So don’t shoot the messenger! (Ed’s note – this story has been updated from its original version after the Club contacted onlinegooner to categorically state that the seat offer was not withdrawn due to them underpricing the process of removing and mailing them, and that it was indeed due to problems with toxic metal in an indoor environment. They acknowledge the reasons fans may have been suspicious after the problems that arose placing an order to buy their seat online as the season neared its conclusion, but clarified that their reasoning was genuine. Onlinegooner accepts this and is happy to set the record straight. So enough with those conspiracy theories, okay!)
