In response to Paul Gausden's hysterical rant (Row 15 is pants!) about the "liars" at the club who sold him a seat under false pretences and in response to the over the top moaning about the club in general I would like to give my personal recollection of choosing both a seat for myself and my son.
I have been a North Bank Ender all my life and when the new stadium came along myself and a few friends who were together at Highbury and had season tickets decided to get a similar view at Ashburton Grove. My previous seat was between the six and 18 yard box and I was happy with the view being about halfway up the lower stand.
When the appointed day came for me to visit the club I was extremely well informed by a young lady at the reservation centre called Laura Sandell who was obviously a fan, loved the Arsenal and had been very well versed in our new ground.
I was told that the best viewing rows in the new lower North stand were around 15-20 but that the best was somewhere around 18 and that this would give me a similar view to the one that I had at Highbury. Laura explained that the gradient was in fact shallower as there were more rows to get in and so I could be at the same height as at Highbury but be further back or be as close to the pitch as before but lower down. I was given several views and choices of seat on the impressive 3D screen that showed the configuration of the new seating arrangements before I decided to go for the row 18 choice.
I do therefore take exception to so-called fans taking every opportunity to rubbish our club in what was after all a mammoth task in trying to accommodate 60,000 season ticket holders, waiting list members, junior gunners, disabled supporters and so on. Incidentally, whilst I did get an early choice of seat because of my season ticket status I did also get the opportunity to revisit the club seven months later with my son who was on the season ticket waiting list to choose his seat.
The experience this time was almost identical albeit the young guy who helped this time was less memorable mainly because I had been once and didn't need the same comprehensive assistance. I still have the print out of the 3D screen for both the seats and they sit proudly on my pin board behind my computer.
Why can't we all be a little more patient with the club in the first quarter of a new season in a brand new ground where the logistical organisation will take some time to bed down? Getting upset about people leaving early, arriving late, poor seats, long queues, no decorations etc etc is getting on my nerves.
Pipe down, enjoy the greatest football at the true home of football and be patient for just a little while!
