Have just read the rubbish that Wenger has written about the defeat at Bolton. Can just someone at the club please try to get his head out of the sand and focused back on the side because we are in big trouble otherwise? Instead of telling us how unlucky we were and how good this side is, please sort out the obvious problems.
Number 1: Get the blend right between ball players and physical presence! Like last season any side that gets amongst us and stops us passing has us for breakfast. If you look at the fixture list we have a lot of away fixtures coming in the second half of the season against sides we are going to struggle against unless he signs a few midfielders who can actually tackle. Let’s be honest Hleb, Gilberto and Ljungberg can’t tackle their way out of a paper bag, whereas Fabregas, Flamini and Rosicky are too small to have any physical effect. I can’t believe that this is the same manager who teamed up Vieira, Petit and Parlour in midfield. Who would you rather have in the side on a cold day in the north west?
Number 2: Ditch the awful tactics at home! Why are we playing with one up front against crap sides at home? Everton had a 36-year-old centre half so we play one up to really put him under pressure. We had four forwards on at the end of the game Henry (having a day off), Van Persie (wide left!), Aliadiere (wide right!) and Walcott (right back!) Send for the men in white coats please. Newcastle had Titus Bramble at centre half so we have one up front and play him in for an hour! Villa, Middlesbrough and Sheff U defended so deep that we couldn’t possibly pass through them. The answer is width but we only have Walcott who can get around the back of a defence but can't get a game. Ljungberg can’t play more than once a month and as for Hleb? Please!
The problems are there for everyone to see and someone needs to tell Arsene that an awful lot of the other managers can see it too. My gripe is that this is not being addressed. Look through the fixture list and like last season you can pick the defeats and they will be in double figures again. The trouble this time is that we are compounding the problem with the tactics at home and not winning enough games. The result is going to be no Champions League and I’m not sure the club can afford that. Wake up Wenger and heed the warning signs from last season.
