Cashley: Time to let go?

Submitted before the weekend, a view that Ashley Cole should now be consigned to history in more ways than one

Cashley: Time to let go?

Cashley: Anyone tried passing one of these off in a bar on Sunday?

Anybody of a certain age will remember our young brilliant centre forward Frank Stapleton leaving the Mighty Arse for of all teams... bloody ManUre at the end of his contract, with his transfer being set by the Football Association at a knock down £900,000. When he returned to Highbury in the first game of the new season he copped the worst abuse from the crowd including yours truly that any returning player has to my knowledge ever had dished out.

Now I'll admit it's hard to write about our ex full-back Mr Tweedy without getting judgmental, pious and taking a holier than thou stance. But it is time to draw a line in the sand because it's starting to get on my nerves that we as supporters have seemed to have developed an unhealthy almost obsessive reaction to the 'split up'. And when the team needed us to be really up for it and right behind them against Newcastle the only songs that seemed to rouse everybody were ‘Ten men went to bed’ and ‘Oh Ashley Cole is a ( fill in the missing words). Not exactly inspiring for the team is it ?

For the record I liked Cashley as a Gooner but now couldn't give a toss about him as a Chavski rent boy. I won’t be buying (if it's still available?) his Booker award listed drivel, because he's left us now and I couldn't give a stuff what self-justifying and pitying rubbish has been written by him. I like to think I've moved on from our acrimonious parting and don't want to get labelled as a stalker with a fixation on the ex-girlfriend and her new partner.

I couldn't care less if the Cashley songs are - according to the club - homophobic, blasphemous or anti-Cornish tin miners... we should save them for the pub and get back to singing some proper songs in the new ground. And for the record when Jose MaureenYo turns up with the plastic Moscow State Circus performing troupe of mercenary Chavs in north London, I'll be the first shouting abuse at Mr Ashley Cole which will make the comments aimed at Frank Stapleton seem quite tame.

Do we really want to end up bitter and twisted like the Spudz got over Sol Campbell or the way Chavski have behaved over the legend that is William Gallas?
