Time to protest at the cost of watching Arsenal home and away

It’s too expensive. We all know that. But what are we going to do? Vote with our wallets?

Time to protest at the cost of watching Arsenal home and away

Arsenal food – Are you going to stop buying?

I am sitting here writing this jealous of Manchester United Football Club. That is not a sentence that I thought would either leave my lips or the bit of my Stella Artois addled brain that is responsible for the stuff that I write.

The reason for my jealousy is that ManUre's support has got off its collective arse (and not just to sing that crappy ‘United, United, United’ song) in protest at being charged more for away games than teams in the bottom half or lower grade as the Clubs categorize them.

The Mancs publicised a boycott on everything on sale at the Fulham game last weekend including programmes, beer, betting etc, in protest at them being charged £45 for admittance while the blue half of their city was charged £25. Just because they support the richest team in world football it doesn’t mean their support all live in Alderley Edge with Rooney etc!!

I have always thought that the ticket price grading scheme is grossly unfair but unfortunately up til now I have sat back and taken it with everyone else.

Well seeing as you (The Gooner) have the medium and probably one of the largest independent voices on all things Arsenal how about you get in touch with the other fanzines (putting all club issues aside) to try and get something started in joint protest not only at the ticket grading scheme but at the ridiculous price that it now costs to see our beloved clubs (especially AFC at the new ground - whatever it is ok to call it this week)

I’m sure Edelman would turn in his coffin at night (I’m sure he is the living dead) if we ALL boycotted food, beer, programmes etc at home games and the message would soon get through to the players if there were protests in the grounds... remember Anfield the other week!

So hats off to the Mancs... its over to you at Gooner Towers to organise us also!!!

Ed’s note – I’ll give you the oxygen of publicity, but if you think anyone can get through to people who are foolish enough to pay £7 for a small fish and chips, good luck to you. I personally am happy to boycott all food, beer and programmes sold by Arsenal. Delighted. Already doing it. If anyone wants to organise a more widespread protest under the name of ‘The Gooner’ feel free to get in touch. But isn’t that what AISA is for? There’s also a national campaign being run by the Football Supporters Federation. Click here for more details.
