Chris Whyte – Interview in the next issue

The next issue of the Gooner, on sale at the Reading game next weekend, will feature amongst other things, an interview with 1980’s centre back Chris ‘Chalky’ Whyte.

I am a little time pushed, so am just asking if there are any touch typists out there who would be willing to transcribe a recording of the interview. It lasts about half an hour. So if you are able to help out and get a typed transcript to me by Sunday lunchtime, please get in touch. I will send you the audio file in mp3 format and then you do the rest.

If you are able to help us out, please email me at [email protected] - UPDATE: We have had a volunteer come forward, so all sorted.

Thanks

My mum used to work with Chris' mum. I remember her coming home from work one Friday evening telling me that Mrs Whyte was all excited because her "little lad" would be playing for Arsenal tomorrow. He made his debut along Raphael Meade, who was starting in the XI for the 1st time, vs Man City. Meade scored the winnder and Chris marked Trevor Francis out of the game.

I remember Chris Whyte,he made a promising start, but flattered to deceive.Started games, but gradually got worse as the games went by,i remember he scored 4 goals for the reserves as an emergancy centre-forward and played for the first team in tht position the following Saturday and was completely out of his depth. Not long after that he was shown the door.Don't be fooled that because he won a league title he was any good, plenty of players have won titles and been rubbish,Lee Chapman anyone!!!!

Chalkie Whyte... Its not only AW that gets it wrong.... contract not renewed in the 80's, went to the US and came back to win The Title with Leeds in the 90s... And a local too (Islington), disgraceful... and all because of Tommy Caton, what a balls up.
