Yes, Arsenal need cash, but Dein is no great loss

DD: Saint or sinner?

I must say that I have found it hard to form a concrete view on the takeover talk - yet. The overwhelming emotion is apathy. Not for me, asking for all Gooners to create FC Gunners, going into the Rymans South Division 3, supported by thousands whilst the media are interested.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to see Arsenal remain in its present hands, simply because they haven't done a great deal wrong over the 30 years I've been going to Highbury/Arsenal stadium. However, I am not naive enough to think that the weight of money that could be offered to the present board could be resisted forever - irrespective of their statement, as discussed on the onlinegooner. Equally, I don't particularly want someone else owning the club, especially someone who is looking to make money out of the game, but we do need, whether we like it or not, a big injection of cash to simply keep up with Chelski and USA.

However, I am forming an opinion on the views aired by the likes of Wrighty, Wenger et al regarding the departure of David Dein. In my view, if there was anyone who is solely interested in making money out of us on the board, it was him. He is immensely unpopular with the staff who work at the ground, and is not liked by his peers in other teams. He is credited with bringing Wenger here, but that could have gone tits up - then what would be on his CV? Cole salary fiasco? Graham bung? The all white North Bank mural? Wembley move? Rioch dismissal handling?

I am not convinced the man has gone for good, but I am convinced that he is not as big a loss now as is made out by all and sundry. This should not affect the players ahead of our North London derby - I hope!
