The third fancy dress away day will take place at Pompey v Arsenal on Sunday. The coaches dedicated to those in costume are now full, but this is a request to anyone travelling to make the effort and sort out a costume to make the Milton End one big party.

If you’re nervous about wandering through Portsmouth dressed as a pimp, a Swiss maid or a bankrobber, just pack your clobber into a holdall and change once you’re safely inside. Should make the bag checks outside the turnstile a chuckle too.

Successful fancy dress away days have already passed without problems at Fulham in 2004 (when the Cottagers played at Lofthouse Road) and Birmingham in 2005.

So the more the merrier. Even if you’re the introverted type, just take along a silly hat. Frankly, you’re more likely to look ridiculous in the Arsenal section if you are not in fancy dress.

So come on you Gooners. Let’s show the Premiership there’s one set of fans that know how to create a carnival atmosphere at the end of the season even if we aren’t champions.
