And so, a year is a long time in football. Twelve months ago, we saw a huge rise in Barcelona shirts in Tottenham, Talksport had muppets on the radio saying that they hoped an English team won it, not Arsenal who were French & people saying how could Arsenal be champions of Europe but not champions of their own country.
Now, we sit down this Wednesday, thinking who should we get behind? AC Milan or Liverpool? Well, after finding ourselves in a similar situation on Saturday, where it was the rock and hard place between Chelski & USA, I thought that I might help you all after reading the thoughts of those two articulate scousers, Messers Carragher and Gerrard.
Firstly, the man who nearly signed for Chelski. In his autobiography, which has been paraphrased significantly this week due to his attack on Gattuso, it is worth remembering his attack on the post cup final Arsenal in 2001. In his book, safely written some five years later, after his failed World Cup bid, he moans that we were bad losers, and we did not recognise the effort that his great team put in to steal the trophy.
Alas, James is no better. He defends the style of play that route one Liverpool adopt, by suggesting that Wenger would gladly swap places with Beneitz - doh! - at the moment as it is results that count. He then says that he does not take much football in when he is away from playing for his team, rather that he hopes he doesn't go home and cry like Wenger after a game. Heh? What's his problem?
So, a player who can't stand bad losers and a player who believes that winning at all costs is all that matters, eh?
Let’s hope that Milan, who shouldn't be there as well due to the match fixing scandal, are outplayed by a free flowing Liverpool, only for Inzaghi to tap in a clear offside winning goal in the last minute. Then, we can reuse the Harry Enfield’s scouse characters like he did on Friday, and scream "Calm Down, Calm down!"
