Listening on the day of the Champion League Final to the struggles of Liverpool fans trying to get to Athens and the tales of woe from thousands of ticket less fans, everything David Dein has tried to do in the last few months for Arsenal has finally sunk in, I have seen the light.
Do you think for one minute that if a commodity like football was as popular in America as the UK with tickets demand over subscribed by at least x 4 that fans would be denied the opportunity to watch this most prestigious final. The very idea that thousands of people with money to spend and no where to spend it would be tolerated by hard headed business men will mean the end of the amateur way footballing events are held in the UK and European countries.
The American experience of handling big events and their “can do” attitude would ensure the following:
1. Everyone would get a seat (Including all corporate needs)
2. Forged tickets and ticket touts would be a thing of the past.
3. Everyone would be fed and watered and offered first class accommodation during their stay.
4. If the current stadiums were not big enough the Yanks would build bigger ones.
5. The clowns in UEFA and our FA would be removed and proper business men would replace them.
Dein can see the day when the Americans now flooding into our national game will take over our FA and Europe’s controlling bodies, and because of the capacity in the States to hold sporting events the Champions League Final could end up being watched in a stadium in downtown New York by over 200,000 people. The American desire to ensure customer service and with the numbers adding up it will end the pathetic shambles we see every year when only 20% of the people who really want to watch the final actually get tickets.
Football now is probably the fastest growing business in the entertainment world and it can now no longer be run by part time committee members and “has been” footballers, remember these are the idiots who thought Heizel was a suitable venue for a European Cup Final, let the experts take it on from here. Mr Dein you were are so right in what you wanted for our club and this will be proved in the next few years when Liverpool & Man Utd disappear over the horizon and teams like Aston Villa overtake us.
