Are retaining the services of Le Boss more important than a decent 2007/08 campaign?

Objective – Keep Wenger!

The man who bought titles on a shoestring

The coming season comes down to simply one objective: retain Arsene Wenger.

Over 10 years he has delivered significant success for Arsenal on a relatively shoestring budget. So what does it take?

The obvious choice is a decent budget to bring in two or three key players, hopefully enough to convince Wenger to extend his contract very soon. Alternatively, a disastrous season leading to a share price crash and empty Club level seats, followed by a takeover that brings David Dein back.

That's why I believe that even if Wenger does not sign an extension he won't commit elsewhere until after the season closes. I for one would happily sacrifice one season, even qualification for the Champions League, if it means that members of the current board, who clearly understand the world of football far less well than David Dein does, are shown the door.

Remember the whole Cashley thing started because the Board would not agree to award the extra £5000 per week that Dein recommended for the player.
