A suggested initiative to improve home matchdays

Arsenal could provide scarves to help atmosphere

An example of the form…

Regarding a special Arsenal song. One of the issues seems to be encouraging everyone to sing at the required moment. To encourage this it would work better if everyone was holding up a scarf.

Now most supporters do not wear a scarf to matches (me included). However if the club were to produce one for each seat then everyone would have one. The "scarves" would not have to be full length (perhaps about 60cm).

Man City did a similar thing last year for the local derby against United. At the end of each match the scarves could be returned to some large receptacles at suitable places as spectators exited. This would mean that they could be re-used for each home match. These could then be placed on each seat for the next match.

As we all get more used to the idea, after a few matches spectators could take a scarf from the receptacles on their way to the seats, avoiding having to have volunteers to put them out every time. There would be an initial expense for the club to produce all the scarves but after that there would hopefully just be the cost of "topping up" the number now and then, as some may need to be replaced and also they would need to be cleaned a few times a season.

Everyone standing up together has always worked well when red and white pieces of card have been used, and so the scarves should also work and look good, plus it should encourage everyone to stand up and sing at the same time (like Liverpool do with their song).

While on the subject of a suitable song... Why hasn`t "When You’re Smiling" been nominated? This used to be sung regularly on the North Bank in the 70s and so has some previous history. Or how about "Maybe it’s because I’m a Gooner, that I love Arsenal" sung to the tune of "Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner". Both these songs seem relevant to Arsenal and they are also about the right pace and length. Just some ideas
