In response or addition to the recent articles regarding the Ashburton Grove atmosphere...
I'm a season ticket holder in the Redaction area and sing up for the Arsenal before, during and after all games. We have a great atmosphere in block 6 fully getting behind the team for the full 90 minutes. I'm not trying to say that there isn't a problem with the atmosphere due to our section but if other sections joined in as well it would blow the acoustically built roof off our brand new home. And I believe I may have come across a novel way to accomplish this.
Whilst watching the recent Le Mans vs Metz game in the Ligue 1 (I forget what random channel I found it on) I noticed that the home crowd were in great voice the whole game. The reason for this, or at least partly the reason, was that they had a dedicated "singer" so to speak. The "singer", whose voice would be amplified by either a very loud megaphone or the PA system, would start a chant and the rest of the crowd would join in with him. When the level of noise around the ground rose the "singer" would stop and allow the fans to be heard!! This generated a great atmosphere in what was a very dull game to watch.
I think we could greatly improve the noise and atmosphere at Ashburton by adopting this idea for match days. Now I'm sure the club will never allow Redaction to use the PA system during the game but I'm sure we could lobby for a megaphone, with a very high volume, to be brought in? What harm could it do?? So why not do this during games? I for one believe it can only benefit the atmosphere during home matches.
