Why not call Arsenal’s stadium The Armoury?

Thoughts on a name.

Why not call Arsenal’s stadium The Armoury?

What will we be calling it in 2021 when the current deal expires?

Has anyone suggested us all calling the new stadium "The Armoury"

It’s in keeping with the "The" in "The Arsenal", which is the club’s full title. Ed’s note – not 100% sure it officially is, but we’ll roll with it

It’s also a fortress-like name to strike fear into visitors.

And they wouldn't have to change the signs at the shop!

I will always call it Highbury myself.

Ed’s note – as this is undoubtedly a bit on the short side, but nevertheless an interesting idea, I’m just going to expand on it a little below…

When Southampton called their new home the Friends Provident St Mary’s Stadium, it meant that when the sponsorship ended, the fans had something to call the stadium. The same with Boro’s Cellnet Riverside.

You have to wonder why the Arsenal board didn’t have the foresight to see potential problems in the future. Ok, the sponsors want their name on the thing, so be it. But why not call it ‘The Emirates’ Armoury’? Then, in 2021 it could revert to ‘The Armoury’ or if a new sponsor were considered, the ‘Nike Armoury’ or whatever. Certainly not too late to introduce this idea now and I’m sure it would go down well with the supporters.
