The Newcastle manager is one bad result from getting his cards. Hooray.

And so farewell Fat Sam

Fat Sam: Decined Newcastle once before as the job was too big for him. He was right there

This may well be the most uncharitable article ever to appear on the Gooner website but in for a penny in for a million pounds a year. Waking up to yesterday morning’s newspapers brought a warm glow to my face even though it was minus 1°C outside. Banner headlines such as “Angry fans home in on Allardyce” and “Sam’s agony” make wonderful reading.

For years Fat Sam has been loved by the media even though his teams have played something more akin to rollerball than football, but now he has at last been found out. Borrowing a phrase from a previous Newcastle manager “I am lovin’ it!”.

Every time Arsenal played Bolton, Allardyce would stoke the fires before the game saying that our Southern softies couldn’t handle the physical stuff his teams used to dish out. Which Arsenal fan can ever forget the end of our title aspirations during the April 2003 visit to the Reebok Stadium when Ljungberg, Cygan and Lauren were all carried off after cynical fouls by Bolton players? That was one of my worst days in nearly 30 years supporting Arsenal as a team of cloggers were allowed to bend the rules way beyond breaking point, simply because they couldn’t compete within the laws of the game.

Allardyce is also one of the worst offenders when it comes to abusing referees from his technical area. Seeing his corpulent face contorted as he screams abuse at hapless referees and linesmen is a great advert for the modern game and it may also explain why supporters feel the need to hurl abuse from the terraces. If Fat Sam and his mates can’t respect opponents and referees, why should we?

There are also the corruption allegations made against Allardyce and his son Craig by the BBC’s flagship news programme Panorama. Allardyce’s response to such serious allegations? To refuse to talk to any BBC reporters; you would think that if the allegations were unfounded, a man of integrity would take legal action and sue and I find it strange that Fat Sam hasn’t done exactly that. Or maybe there is another reason why he bought so many has-beens when he was at Bolton.

The combination of poor results, boring football and player indiscipline (Joey Barton – what a prat) at Newcastle will surely spell the end for one of the most over-rated managers in the modern game and I’m sure there won’t be one single tear shed by any Arsenal fan. In fact, as it’s still technically the festive season, I’ll open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate.

Sad thing is though, Allardyce will almost certainly receive a severance payment of millions, all paid for by loyal supporters, just as that other failure Steve McClaren did. Makes you proud to be a football fan doesn’t it?

BREAKING NEWS (courtesy of Brian Dawes) - Quite a few Geordies apparently want Fat Sam's head to be served up on a platter. Trouble is that as yet no one in the entire North East has found a platter anywhere big enough.
