Regarding your view on the Birmingham match, I largely agree with your comments. Your criticism of us dropping points against the lesser teams is fine, up to a point – other than Manure these were the first home dropped points of the season; I honestly doubt there will be many others. I think it will be very tight all the way to the end.
The critical period is March 22-April 12, when our run is Chelsea A, Bolton A, Liverpool H, Man U A; that is when it will be decided!
I was in row 13 of block 91, which is right on the half way line; this becomes block 134 in the middle – there were four idiots there too, in row 12. one was a particular know-it-all with the foul language thrown in. In the row in front (row 11) was a young kid, maybe three or four years of age, who spent the whole of the second half in his father’s arms looking back at this idiot, completely non-plussed. Of course we were all frustrated with the result and the performance, but the more you can publicise the real fans’ objections to the foul-mouthed few who do spoilt the atmosphere the better.
A friend of mine was also in block 91 for the Spurs game, where the use of the Y word was (apparently) intense and continuous. My friend, who is Jewish, had the guts to tell the “offenders” to shut up – which they did, and one even apologised. I have since discovered that most of block 91 is for guests of directors (and the ex-vice-chairman) who don’t get into Club Level. Having sat there a few times, I can say that the faces change a lot, but the attitude doesn’t!
And a few thoughts on the last two games:
I thought Hoyte was very good in the 2nd half against Spurs; I really do hope he stays and becomes our John O’Shea – ie someone capable of filling in anywhere in the back four; all teams need someone like that and I bet he would settle for that kind of role.
Had Eduardo started, we would have won the Spurs game.
Walcott will not make it as a winger; the sooner Wenger makes him an impact central striker and occasional starter the better
We need a proper winger on one side
Senderos has done fine (well mostly)
And going forward:
We will beat Fulham, comfortably; I expect Brum to hold Chelsea, but Reading will doubtless capitulate against Manure
We will get score draw (2-2, 3-3) at Spurs and go through on away goals – but it is critical that apart from Senderos, Walcott and Eduardo, none of Saturday’s starting team are involved there, not even on the bench.
And finally: Diarra is an utter disgrace. Personally I didn’t understand why we signed him. I’d ship him out on loan to Derby, or Fulham.
