Monday morning musings post-Fulham, pre-Spurs

Justin Hoyte: Alongside Big Phil at the Lane?

Following our demolition of Fulham on Saturday, a few thoughts and observations:

How bad are Fulham? Worse than bad, it must be said. Considering the amount of money paid for some of these players, their collective skill level, football brainpower and legitimacy to be considered as Premiership footballers must be seriously doubted.

On that basis, while it was nice to see a 3-0 win without being stretched, it’s difficult to be sure if the team is back on track or not; the matches against Newcastle will be more interesting in that regard.

The Gooners were in fine voice – from where I was sitting (amidst the Fulham fans closest to the away section) – it was amusing to see the utterly bemused look on most Fulham fans’ faces at the continuous singing throughout the entire game; quietest fans in the League prize has to go to Fulham. The genteel residents of SW6 will have no fear of their Saturday afternoon slumbers being disturbed next season.

What a superb song for Adebayor – almost hymn like… the sooner we can get that being sung at home the better…

Gold star award to Gilberto Silva; he, Diaby and Bendtner were warming up just in front of me; there were several young (Fulham) fans there; several clearly said something (presumably nice) to Gilberto; on two occasions he turned and shook their hands and then gave one of the kids his gloves. All done with a smile. Mr Diarra, Cole and others please note.

The Arsenal fans paid £45… well, so you have an idea what the home fans were paying, I paid £50, plus the booking fee… for a crap seat (position fine, but the seat itself was made of plastic no stronger than a milk bottle)!!

What is this sycophantic love-in which the BBC has with Newcastle? MOTD leading with a 0-0? Radio 5Live having phone-ins all about a poor mid-table team which hasn’t won a domestic trophy for 50 years or more? Let’s hope we can stuff them in both the games coming up.

And so to the Spuds tomorrow… what team would I pick? Specifically who would I play at centre back? Do I risk Hoyte with Senderos or push Gilberto back? Or do I take a bigger risk and put Gallas there? On balance, I would play Gallas and I would also play Eduardo up front with Bendtner. Walcott may have to be left out if he is no longer regarded as a winger. Randall could play there or Diaby could with Gibbs on the left.
