William Gallas reflected the ordinary fans’ frustration. Was he right to do what he did? I believe he was. Emotions were already high following the rash challenge resulting in Eduardo's career threatening injury. He was also only yards away when Clichy clearly played the ball before Parnaby's swallow dive. He was extremely angry so took himself away before he got himself into more trouble.
At the end he sat down on the pitch partly as a protest and partly to calm down as he was still so angry at the injustice of it all. I was proud of Gallas because I felt the same. What did the pundits want Gallas to do? Snarl in the faces of the officials? I'm sure both Man U and Chelsea would have surrounded them.
Gallas bared his sole for everyone to see. He showed he cared, even crying tears of frustration. If he was my Captain I would be proud of him. I am sure his actions will act to motivate his team-mates and not as a bad example the pundits would have us believe.
Alan Hansen believed it would give our rivals a boost and seemed to want to compare Gallas to a spoilt child. Strange it took an ex-Spurs man Lineker to point out the obvious about emotions being high due to Eduardo's injury.
I wondered why Gallas was given the captaincy by Wenger but as usual it was another inspired appointment. He shows the same passion as our manager, someone who best reflects his persona on the pitch.
It is very difficult for fans to relate to today’s highly paid footballers. William Gallas bridged that gap today. His actions had nothing to do with his wage packet, only his heart. I just hope Gallas has a chance to lift the Premiership trophy because apart from the fans, I am sure there will be no one prouder than our captain. And I bet he will be the last player off the pitch.
