Eduardo news is just what the doctor ordered

And it’s to Arsenal’s benefit that not all our stars will be at the Euros

Eduardo news is just what the doctor ordered

Eduardo – Ahead of schedule with recovery

After seeing what can only be described as astonishing footage from Brazil earlier this week, I must say that it comes as a relief to finally see an Arsenal player showing some true grit and pride following a week of player reactions. For those of you who haven’t heard the latest news on Arsenal’s No.9, it now seems that we could be seeing him back in an Arsenal shirt as early as July as doctors have stated that his recovery is going far better than expected.

Most football fans winced at the sight of Eduardo being stretchered off at St. Andrews in February and credit can only go to the Croat for what seems like pure determination not to let himself be beaten by an injury of which has cut short plenty of careers in the past. For me this is the kind of player behaviour that I want to see from our boys, not those who start criticising the club’s wage structure just because somebody else is earning more than his £60,000 a week.

It was particularly pleasing to see Eddy actually kicking the ball and doing some jogging. This can only be seen as miraculous given the time scale put on his recovery after the operation. Eduardo told Croatian sports daily Sportske Novosti: “I am returning to Europe from Brazil at the beginning of August, perhaps even the end of July.” He added: “Doctors tell me by then I will be fully recovered and able to play football again. I hope so too. I’m feeling well and my rehabilitation is going better than I would ever have hoped.”

As I mentioned earlier, coming off the back of a week which has seen more meddling by Hleb’s agent and Robin Van Persie slating the club’s bankroll, it is good to see a few of the squad get behind the cause which took us so close last term. It now appears that Cesc is penning a new deal and if Adebayor remains at the club and is fully focused on the task at hand it could be a good pre-season for the Gunners.

Another thing that may aid us next season is the fact that we will not have the majority of our squad playing at the Euros this summer either. With first teamers like Sagna, Clichy, Rosicky and of course Eduardo all not featuring, surely this can give us a good reason to finally take the bubble wrap off of the trophy cabinet at the Emirates?

Many would argue that it does the players good to be participating in the tournament as for those who end up on the winning side it could help spur them on. However, I take the view that the domestic season ended less than a month ago and if we can have our players at their freshest then that can only be a bonus to us. It would be no bad thing if Van Persie was struggling for fitness to such an extent that he was unable to play for Holland at the tournament, although they will probably amble on him with their having little to lose if he picks up another injury.

Rosicky is another one who has had a season ravished by injury and I’m sure that a prolonged summer rest will do him the world of good coming into a season where he will surely be looking to really kick-start his Arsenal career. As it now appears that Arsenal have all but signed Samir Nasri, perhaps Arsenal fans will now be treated to a pair of wide men, Rosicky and Nasri, that can re-kindle the type of form shown by two of Arsenal’s greatest ever in those positions - Pires and Ljungberg.

So to sum up the good news, let’s hopefully see Eduardo back in action for the start of the season and with a bit of luck, show some of the doubters in the squad that you don’t have to be earning £100,000 a week to win trophies, you just have to show some fighting spirit.
