The Disgrace of Arsenal’s Transfer Speculation

Many fans are not happy at the club’s policy of refusing to comment on transfer gossip

The Disgrace of Arsenal’s Transfer Speculation

Adebayor – In the papers more than Amy Winehouse these days

And so I write this on the eve of perhaps our talisman Emmanuel Adebayor departing to FC Barcelona. Obviously this may not happen but the sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach suggests this deal could. After Ade saying how much he loves Arsenal he is now stating that now is not the right time to comment. Charming but that’s another issue.

I think most of us on Friday were looking forward to going on to arsenal.com to see a picture of Samir Nasri holding up his number 8 shirt. Instead all we got on every bit of sporting news - in particularly newsnow.co.uk - was Barcelona have agreed 22.5million deal for Ade.

This in a nutshell sums up Arsenal’s post season for the last eight years. Despair and worry for fans that our top players are off. Now I know that a lot of the sites on newsnow are bollocks. Caught offside.com is disgraceful. “Arsenal linked to 19 million striker. Would be a great signing!” etc etc as are quite a few others and I also know that we should not believe transfer speculation and potential departures from our club. But it’s a bit hard not to when every f***ing site is running the same story that one of our players is off - as is Arsenal-hating Fleet Street. (Ed’s note – that’s the newspapers for our younger readers!)

The club really don’t help themselves. They refuse to comment on transfer speculation. That’s their choice. But do they know how we feel? It would be nice if every now and then they came out fighting with words like “Adebayor is not for sale, Clichy is not for sale, end of”. Their refusal to comment is partly why we get walked all over by the likes of Madrid, Barcelona, Milan etc. At least United and old Red Nose has come out fighting in their war with Real Madrid over Ronaldo.

I surely can’t be the only one who thinks this. I await confirmation of the Nasri deal, which I’m looking forward to. But if Ade does go, what does it say about us as a club and who will be next rumoured departure? Cesc? Can’t f***ing wait.
