I’m just going to reproduce an excerpt from Brian Glanville’s monthly column in the June edition of ‘World Soccer’, as it cheered me up no end with all the negativity about the club flying around at the moment.
It reads…
The FA Cup Final was pretty dull but partially redeemed for me by the gloriously precocious display by Cardiff’s 17-year-old prodigy Aaron Ramsey, a second half substitute. Portsmouth may have won but they never mastered him.
Ramsey has excellent technique, a fertile football brain, an admirable desire to be in the thick of things and is never intimidated, whatever the apparent odds. There was a moment late in the game when, receiving the ball in the thick of the Portsmouth penalty area, he coolly refused to lay it off at random, turned to pick his way past two men, then found a colleague. On another occasion, having received the ball and passed it, he stood I the centre of the attack, raising both arms, demanding a return pass.
Afterwards his manager, David Jones, spoke admiringly of him, emphasized how much his coaching staff had done with him, felt that the impact he’d made at Wembley was in part down to the fact he had brought fresh legs, and hoped Cardiff could keep him by reaching the Premier League. Which does seem unlikely – with former owner Sam Hammam still demanding his substantial money back, Cardiff are still financially precarious.
Whoever does manage to sign Ramsey will acquire one of Britain’s most exciting young players. Lucky Wales to be able to call on him.
World Soccer has its own website, so in return for reproducing an excerpt from Brian Glanville’s column, only fair that we at onlinegooner do a link in return.
