A Message for the Boss

There is the whiff of revolution amongst the fans

A Message for the Boss

Bouba Diop – Is he what’s required?

Some points for the Emirates hierarchy to consider...

As a religious Gooner, I, like many, hate the pre-season, as it’s filled with all these bullsh*t rumours of who will be leaving our club and not so much a focus on who’s coming in. I think it is time for this to change. It’s all well and good that Mr Wenger is building for our future for when, I hate to say it, he no longer is our boss but in the short term, we need to continued success NOW so we can still be up there in the long-term, post Wenger era.

Now, Nasri is a brilliant player and hopefully he will do well for us but we need to be getting people in who have played in the Premiership. Don’t get me wrong, our current crop have shown they can play but what we need is a bully of a striker like Drogba, Crouch or David Villa, a bustly centre -midfielder like Bouba Diop, Diagne Faye or Marcos Senna, a playmaker with a bit of guile like David Silva or Rafael Van Der Vaart, as Wenger said at the end of last season, not naming those exact names but players of that stature. In this day and age if you fall behind, you get left behind and a club of our size simply cannot afford to do that – i.e. become like Blackburn or Newcastle, as we the fans will only take so much as we’ve already gone three years without a trophy (and that was won on penalties). Look back at the “Invincibles” - the core of the team, Campbell, Cole, Keown, Parlour were loyal leaders of men and British.

I know English players are more expensive but they have experience that no amount of money can buy. Since the likes of Vieira, and Adams, we’ve needed somebody to rally the troops when we’re 1-0 down and not performing on a rain-sodden or freezing afternoon/night at Hull, Stoke or even Bolton - who seem to have us sussed most of the time. At the moment we only have Gilberto, who is in and out of the side, Gallas can’t do it on his own and it’s the same with Kolo.

Now this may mean that a few of the younger players may miss out on playing time but they can learn from the older lads by watching from the bench as well as playing alongside them. One example away from football is Andy Murray. Just by watching old matches from Pete Sampras he’s improved his game a lot more. One other thing is the money situation. It’s clear we have the money but the Board need to realise that if we are to keep our best players we need to splash the cash on that front as well. I know a player should play for his shirt but it’s clear that it is now a thing of the past. They are like the average Joe - we are mercenaries when it comes to money, if somebody came up to you and said we’ll pay you double what you’re on now to go and work in another country with nicer weather and way of life you’d take it nine times out of ten. Also there are still some questions that must be answered.

Why get rid of David Dein? Mr Arsenal, a close ally of Wenger and transfer negotiator extraordinaire.

The same with Keith Edelman. Was he pushed? I don’t think he jumped.

Why won’t Mr Hill-Wood take a step back? He’s getting on a bit.

The club need to change their policies or, and I hate to say it, maybe it’s time for a change at manager and boardroom level.

Now I know the boss may not take any notice of this letter but I think I’m speaking on behalf of the fans. (Ed’s note – this is the writer’s belief, but I know for a fact that there is a wide spectrum of views on how the club are going about their business, so this statement can’t be made by anyone)
