A bit of optimism after the Stuttgart game…

Nasri – encouraging debut

First things first. Well done to the boys on Wednesday night in Stuttgart. Falling behind, (which we, the fans, are now accustomed to) the players showed great resilience and came back to win comfortably. The German team looked like they didn’t know what hit them. It was also pleasing to see so many of the youngsters like Vela and Wilshire staking a claim for a place in the first team for the coming campaign.

Ok it was a friendly, but these are the games where you need to get it right going into the new season and from what I saw last night, especially from Ramsey, Vela, Nasri and Bendtner, if they can carry this form into the months ahead I think they might have saved the boss some money.

I’m a bit baffled about the signing of the boy Bischoff from Werder Bremen. Now, I’m sure the boss has seen something which must have caught his eye, but the bloke has only played one first team game and that was in 2007, so I don’t really see why we got him apart from the fact that he didn’t cost a penny. Also, as we have enough young midfielders already. I think we should have bought an experienced player(s) instead to make up for the loss of Gilberto - which needs to be done ASAP and made a top priority as the deadline to register players for the Champions League is looming ever closer (and whoever comes in needs to gel with the team).

I’m also a bit disappointed that we missed out on Ben Haim. He has Premiership experience, aged mid to late 20’s - so we’d get at least four years out of him. And he would have been the valuable and no-nonsense type of defender we need. He’s done well against us in the past too. I think we should have also gone in for Armando Petit of Benfica and soon to be of newly-promoted Wolfsburg. 30 odd years old, strong, powerful, had a good Euro 2008

I’d like to say a rare thanks to our lesser neighbours down the road for the £7million we will receive from David Bentley’s transfer, a masterstroke of business by the boss. I think that this money has effectively paid for Aaron Ramsey so hopefully we should still have money to spend.

This weekend’s Emirates Cup should be a good one. It’s not everyday you get to play Real Madrid and Juve and I hope they send their strongest available sides along with Hamburg with Martin “Honey Monster” Jol at the helm. I think whatever team both Real and juve put out is always strong as they only go for the best, especially Madrid. Then we have the Amsterdam Tournament a few days later, I just hope we don’t get any more injuries.
