Is Djourou the solution to Wenger’s centre back dilemma?

Johan: Better option than Senderos

Finally, somebody on this website who I can relate to.

I agree 100% with what QuartzGooner was saying regarding the midfield and as I’ve said time and time again it’s needed in defence as well. To those of you haters who gave me “stick” for a previous article then all I can say to that is this is a free country and everybody has their own opinion. Well, here’s mine, I think that you are just afraid of the truth and just don’t like hearing it.

Anyway, QuartzGooner has hit the nail on the head with this one. Diarra was good for us in his short spell and he should’ve just been loaned out in January so we could have him back for this year - where he would definitely play as Flamini and Gilberto have moved on. Jack Wilshire has been different class in pre-season along with Ramsey, Vela, and Nasri, but as he’s only 16 it’s a big ask to rely on him, especially in the “big games”, although I’m sure he’d do well.

Now, the boss says he’s happy with his defence options, but Senderos is still at the club. They said in the press the other day that Newcastle offered £10 million for him. Now, a good businessman would’ve taken it, so why didn’t Wenger? In my opnion Djourou is a better player, he is calm under pressure, has pace (which Senderos hasn’t), strength and his reading of the game is better. He put in some classy displays at Birmingham when he was on loan there, notably against Liverpool at Anfield in a 0-0 draw and at Old Trafford where they narrowly lost 1-0. They clearly missed him when he left. Senderos has had his chance so why not give Djourou a shot this year? He’s also been at the club for a while and is a full international so he could save the boss money.

It was also great to see Tomas Rosicky and notably Eduardo at the recent Members’ Day. How I wish the latter could be lining up against West Brom. For me, if he hadn’t got injured we’d be Premier League and European champions right now. It’s also great news that Armand Traore has signed a long-term deal at the club as he can give Clichy some competition and learn from him at the same time. The Carling Cup should be interesting for us this year as I think the young lads are stronger than last and have got the 5-1 at Spurs out of their system.

I’ve heard rumours that this current squad, as young as it may be, is being compared to the likes of the Ajax side that won the Champions League against a star-studded AC Milan in 1995 . Their football back then was similar to ours, and they had virtually unknown youngsters along with seasoned campaigners like Danny Blind, Jari Litmanen and the De Boers. So if Wenger signs an established player, I can’t see why we cannot emulate that great team, who also went on to dominate their domestic league into the late 90’s.

Come on you Gunners, do us proud and give us the trophies that our brand of football deserves and make us great again.
