‘By mutual consent’ – and will Cesc stick around?

I think Arsene will go next summer

Wenger: Telling porkies?

I am so disappointed with Arsene. I want to try to be reasonable and not just rant but... I think I hit a new low on Saturday (against Fulham). I know we’ll have the usual round of people saying we can still win the title and those who say don’t have a knee jerk reaction to a bad defeat, but Saturday was very BAD.

I said to friends at the start of the season, for the first time since Wenger took over, I fear we will not qualify for the Champions League this season. I think this is easily the worst squad we’ve had since he’s been here and the fact that we rely on one man – Fabregas - sums it all up.

At the end of last season, Wenger himself admitted two things - We didn’t have the depth in squad to cover the injuries and we lacked experience. What has our manager done to address these issues? Nothing, nada, zilch, a big fat zero. That is bad management pure and simple. If all and sundry at the club were coming out and saying we had no money at all and we have to deal with things for now then it would be more acceptable but quite frankly, if there is truly money to spend and Wenger still doesn’t strengthen with quality, then for me it is negligent and it makes me furious that we, the fans pay a fortune to watch Arsenal with virtually no investment when really needed.

Just how much money have we saved on wages with Hleb, Flamini, Lehmann and Gilberto going? It must be between £150-200k a week! Where’s that gone? Why don’t we pay our better players more? If our wages are similar to Man Utd’s but our top earners aren’t on high wages then it must mean we are paying youngsters £40k a week, doesn’t it?

There is a comparison to be made with George Graham. George took us from being no hopers and turned us into title winners, and at times the football was fantastic! But towards the end of Graham’s reign, he almost destroyed us, finishing in the bottom half of the table not far from relegation, and with pretty much no youth set up to speak of. Wenger has obviously invested in youth and took us to even greater highs but we are on a downwards curve that looks like it will continue and I wonder just how far we have to go before something is done.

Is it really Arsene’s arrogance and stubbornness that keeps him from buying quality and experience? I have to agree with Martin O’Neill that Wenger’s recent comments on Gareth Barry are indeed bizarre! First of all, Wenger is doing exactly what he himself moans about often enough - saying that he likes someone and has been tracking them, but if he really had any interest he would have made some kind of offer when we had Justin Hoyte (who Villa wanted) wouldn’t he?

I can’t stand any more lies from the club I love – ‘We’ll be able to compete with the Man Utds and Real Madrids in the transfer market’, ‘I will buy two super duper players’, ‘I will sign a couple of players before Euro 2008’, ‘I am interested in Gareth Barry’... and so it goes on. Lies, lies, lies, even from Wenger himself.

I never thought that I would want Wenger to go but he has an obsession with ‘making’ stars and not signing them, when the whole football world can see that if we signed three or four top quality players we could be seriously challenging for trophies again.

To cap it all, Wenger makes Gallas captain again. Gallas is THE weak link in the defence, he has one good game in three at best and shouldn’t even be a first choice, let alone captain but we all know Wenger has his favourites (how else does Eboue get so many games)!!?? Walcott is way out of his depth, Eboue continues to be an embarrassment, Denilson is just not good enough and so it goes on.

Unless we get busy in the transfer market in the next week I really do believe we are in big trouble, and if we do actually finish outside of the top four at the end of the season, I don’t think I’ll be the only one who seriously thinks about leaving. I think Fabregas will be off and I think Wenger will go by ‘mutual consent’. You heard it here first!
