A keeper? Much as I would like Shay Given, I can’t see anything happening here.

Defender? I wouldn’t do anything more here, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Djourou go on loan and an experienced player come in, also on loan

Wingers? Nothing doing

Central Midfield? I am sure we will get someone. Blogs yesterday are full of Vieira returning, doubtless because a clip of him sitting next to Silvestre was shown on TV. Can’t see it myself, although it would be an interesting signing and would create quite a stir. Alonso? yes please; Veloso? Suspect he would be too expensive for Wenger, but he can play at centre back, so maybe. My hunch is someone almost unheard of.

Striker? If they find RVP’s ankle is bad, then I would expect a short term signing. Owen anyone? Just joking.

Left field? In the last two years we have signed Denilson and Diarra at the last minute. So, I also expect a veritable Wengerian rabbit out of his hat. So long as it is not a dopey little white one, like the one our next door neighbours have.

A final thought… everyone saw Mike Ashley drinking at the stadium on ‘Match of the Day’. Well, I have already written to the club asking them whether this rule relaxation re drinking while standing instead of sitting will be relaxed for season ticket holders as well.
