I must admit that I’m absolutely fuming that the boss didn’t sign anybody yesterday, when there were reasonably priced targets available and all our rivals strengthened. And when a player like Robinho signs for Man City - bearing in mind they’ve just hit the jackpot - then I’m afraid that we will be left behind, and I won’t accept that and I’m sure my fellow Gooners won’t either.
So between now and January we’ve got to be careful that we don’t get any more injuries full stop, especially as we play the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and United before then. I think we must win those games if we are to stand any chance of the title. Also we cannot afford to lose any more points unless any of the other three mentioned drop points - which apart from Chelsea v Spurs I can’t really see happening too often. This is especially as United and Chelsea have done so often the last few years. Even the scousers are playing badly at the mo but they are still winning and haven’t lost a game.
Last year Wenger bought Diarra, who I think was excellent till he got impatient - but he knew the score when he joined. Yet Wenger sold him instead of loaning him out, and it turned out to be one of the reasons we were left short. I know he’s brought in Mikael Silvestre, who’s too injury prone for me, and thank god Nasri is instantly repaying his transfer fee. But you cannot rely on Denilson and Diaby, Ramsey, Eboue and young Wilshire - at least till January - and it’s more or less impossible to turn in performances like our last two games against Twente and Newcastle week in week out.
A prime example is when we go to Istanbul to play Fenerbahce in the Champions League if , god forbid, Fabregas is missing or Toure or Gallas were struggling, who is going to lift the team when we need it the most? In my previous offerings I’ve mentioned the players we should have gone in for and in one of the more recent articles I’ve seen who we were linked with and who we actually got and I was amazed about who we let slip away.
The boss/board keeps talking the talk “If I go to the board and ask for £30million for a player, then I can do it”, but they need to start backing that up. Yet again we look mediocre next to our rivals and with the even Spuds signing players like Corluka and Pavlyuchenko - who are players we could have easily bought – it makes things look even worse.
Looking at it now, I don’t blame players for wanting to leave for bigger money and better chances of winning trophies - which in the short term looks like its going to happen whether we like it or not - unless the hierarchy change their ways. Also I’ve got great respect for Ken Friar but when it comes to transfers, he’s no Dave Dein.
