There is something not right in the boardroom at Arsenal

Fiszman – Why the £30 million announcement before the window shut?

(Ed’s note – This was received on Tuesday last week, but it’s a quiet week with no Arsenal football to reflect on. With Danny Fiszman’s reiteration over the weekend that Wenger had money to spend but chose not to I have decided to post this, albeit a little later than intended)

I really don’t know where to start, I’m so disappointed. I spent the whole of Monday watching Sky Sports News and their coverage of transfer deadline day. I knew we weren’t going to go on a spending spree but I thought the one central midfield player we were expecting would be a biggie.

Early evening, then 9, 10, 11pm and then like all other Gooners no doubt the realisation that nobody was coming in at all. I don’t know about all of you but I feel cheated and lied to.

I don’t know if you all remember, but at the end of last season after we had clearly blown it, Arsene Wenger finally came out and said he would start buying some quality players with Premiership experience. At last we thought Arsene has finally seen the light and will loosen the purse strings.

Well Nasri apart who is no doubt quality who has he brought in? Ramsey, Coquelin, and Bischoff.

Yet more unfulfilled potential, we have potential coming out of our ears. Wenger has had all summer to identify his targets for this season, he was at the European Championship in Switzerland/Austria and he couldn’t identify two or three signings?

I wonder what Cesc is thinking now about our ambitions? He is a great lad and a real Gooner and hopefully will be captain soon, but having said that he’s young and wants to win medals.

I am becoming more and more certain that there is something not right in the boardroom at Arsenal since David Dein left. I can’t say for certain but there seems to be conflicting signals coming out. The chairman and directors keep saying our manager has money to spend yet he won’t spend it, not in any great sums anyway.

As soon as the world knew we had £30million to spend on a player, that was our interest in the transfer market killed stone dead. Did anyone else think that was a strange thing to announce to everyone?

Well now it seems that Man City have won the mother of all lotteries, and we slip a little further behind. Have just had a quick look at our next three fixtures, Bolton (a), Dynamo kiev (a) then Blackburn (a). I wonder where we will be the other side of those games?

One final thought. I hate to be a merchant of doom and I hope I’m wrong but the window is closed now and you can almost predict someone important to us is going to get hurt and we have no back up. You don’t need to be a genius to know who I mean.
