Bolton F****** Wanderers

You can take Bolton away from the Fat Sam, but you can’t take the Fat Sam from their tactics.

Bolton F****** Wanderers

Kevin Davies: Mission accomplished with the challenge on Clichy.

How appropriate that Danny Shittu plies his trade for Bolton F***ing Wanderers; I’ve nothing against him personally but don’t the first four letters of his surname sum Bolton up to a tee?? I know that very few Gooners will agree with this but for me to have a more satisfying three points this season, we will have to beat Moan Utd 10-0 at Old Trafford, such is my hatred of everything about BFW. A hatred dating back to April 2003 during the dark days of Fat Sam Araldite and his northern version of a cross between Wimbledon & Frankenstein.

Our second excellent win in seven days in the chilly north west has re-enforced three things, the first being the inherent stupidity and inconsistency of television pundits. A chest infection coupled with a raging bout of Delhi belly (too much information!!) put paid to any hope I had of travelling oop north so I had to settle for second choice and flop down in front of the recently acquired TV.

Sky & Setanta broadcast Arsenal matches nearly every week, presumably because they appreciate the wonderful football played by Arsene’s teams and the spirit in which Arsenal play. So why is it that 99% of their pundits take great delight at any lumpy challenge that comes Arsenal’s way? The truly awful Craig Burley (Andy Gray’s love child) went to great lengths to defend Kevin Davies’s assault on Gael Clichy, which leaves yet another Arsenal player in hospital after a trip oop north. I’m totally against the proposed 39th / international round of matches but if it did go ahead, who do you suppose the good citizens of New York, Bangkok and Shanghai would want to see? Arsenal? Man Utd? Or Bolton F***ing Wanderers??

Which brings me on to my second point; when will referees start to clamp down on the sort of serious foul play that BFW (and several others) are renowned for? Even after Eduardo’s horrendous injury, teams still take to the field with the main aim of kicking Arsenal off the park, rather than trying to compete by raising their own footballing standards.

Today, Cesc Fabregas received a yellow card for celebrating Denilson’s goal, a strike that secured three valuable points in a tight match - Davies received the same punishment for putting Gael Clichy in hospital. When will the FA, UEFA & FIFA wipe the sh*t from their eyes and start offering proper protection for the few teams and players that actually try to play football?

And that leads me nicely on to my third point - I was one of those that criticised Arsene Wenger for not bringing in more new faces during the summer. I know it is still very early days but there are signs emerging that the current young team is maturing into a highly effective unit, with several experienced players still to return from injury.

Arsene clearly likes what he sees from his squad and thinks that they can mount a serious title challenge this season. In three away games this season we have seen two distinctly different sides of Arsenal; seven goals and six points from two difficult trips to the north west following an aberration at Craven Cottage.

It remains to be seen whether the 08/09 version of Arsenal will be Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde but the return of a fully fit Cesc Fabregas has transformed the team, after the shocking performance at Fulham. Having witnessed the comical scenes so far this season at big-spending Newcastle and Sp*rs, I, for one, am very glad that Arsene still does things his way!
