Getting roughed up is a price Arsenal have to pay

The team’s ability to beat most opponents with superior skill and fitness means many will opt to beat them with physical presence.

Getting roughed up is a price Arsenal have to pay

Wenger – Comments about Stoke’s approach were justified

Well what a bloody fantastic weekend it was. Beating Man Utd will now hopefully get the boys performing again like only Arsenal can. And credit to Man Utd for making it such a great exciting match.

Thank God it was their turn last Saturday to play great football and be unable to take their chances. I think we were due a bit of fortune. Mind you when they scored and six added minutes were added on I thought ‘Oh God not again’, but the lads saw it out to our great relief.

I just want to hopefully clear something up and while I don’t presume to talk for Arsene Wenger I thought a lot of his comments in the media were taken out of context. Numerous TV and the written media were quick to jump on the bandwagon and have a go at our Boss. I don’t believe for a moment that Arsene Wenger expects our players not to be tackled, but tackled hard and fair. There is one thing being tackled fair and one thing being almost maimed.

I admire Arsene for coming out honestly in the media and saying what he feels, no dressing it up. A lot of players playing in the Premiership are out of their depth skill wise, speed wise, and talent wise. They are in their team for a physical presence. Remember the tackle on Diaby a couple of seasons ago up at Sunderland? And the image of Eduardo literally coming close to losing his leg at Birmingham last season?

I’m fed up listening to ex-players, the studio pundits continually coming out and saying a pro wouldn’t deliberately go to hurt another player. Well sorry that’s b******s and we all know it is. How many two-footed over the top tackles have you seen in the Premiership alone in the last few seasons, carried out by big name players as well as the type I mentioned above?

We have the best manager in the country, the team that plays the best football in this or any other country, and I suppose if other teams feel roughing them up is the only way to stop them then that’s a price we have to pay.

The transfer window is about eight weeks away now, and if we can stay in touch at the top with the leaders then I really think two maybe three signings would see us really go for it in the New Year. We’re not that far away from getting it right and really competing for the title. Eduardo and Rosicky will be like two new signings anyway. Come on Arsene get that chequebook out.
