I have just read today’s online editorial regarding William Gallas and I agree completely. I said in a previous article that I didn't think things had been right in the Arsenal dressing room since the Birmingham game at St Andrews last season (and maybe before that) but it seems it has been simmering for quite a while now and has finally come to a head.
Kevin Whitcher was right that maybe airing it publicly might finally make clear once and for all what we have thought all along, that there is a serious split in the camp. But to do it two days before a big away game at Man City was shocking timing.
I'm sorry I'm going to say here and now that I think Gallas should be sold in January. Yes as soon as that. I know we have defensive problems this season but that is nothing compared to the disharmony he is causing in the dressing room.
The guy is poison and he is poisoning the dressing room. No wonder Chelsea got rid of him. While I'm on the subject whoever it is that is moaning about other players should be shown the door too, regardless of who it might be.
So who takes the armband? I suppose Toure would have been one of the favourites for a season or two but his form has gone down the pan, so I guess the obvious choice is Cesc. At least he does show he cares.
Arsene Wenger should have taken the captaincy off Gallas last season. The manager has his work cut out now, and I really hope he is identifying transfer targets in January.
It's very tempting to think about rushing through the kids to the first team but it's important we don’t ruin their development. I don't want Gallas stripped of the captaincy - I want him out of the club. It's gone too far now.
