Arsenal men's team boss Mikel Arteta has shared his excitement at the start of the WSL season.

Jonas Eidevall's Arsenal Women's side host Manchester City at the Emirates on Sunday lunchtime to kick-off their 2024-25 Women's Super League campaign.

Arteta took time out from his busy schedule to praise passionate fans of Arsenal Women, and express his satisfaction at how the team is progressing, despite Eidevall's Gunners losing the first leg of their Champions League play-off 1-0 in Gothenburg to BK Hacken earlier this week.

Speaking ahead of the men's trip to the Etihad to face Pep Guardiola's side, previewing the Arsenal's Women's side's match against the same club on Sunday, Arteta said he was: "Very excited, we’re talking about it and it looks like this season again is going to be very special.

"They’re really strong and I’ve already been told that we’ve sold almost 40,000 tickets, which is unbelievable.

"Great to see the progress and connection within our people and them as well, so I wish them all the best."

When asked his take on the Emirates Stadium being the main home for the women's team going forward, Arteta added: "It’s great. It’s another step and I’m delighted that we’re doing that in the way that we’re doing that.

"They fully deserve it and it’s growing and growing. I’m very pleased to see that progress, the same with the academy and how well they are doing.

"As a club, we are strong in every sense and I think it’s going to be really good.
