Evan Ferguson Could be the Answer to Arsenal’s Striker Conundrum

Arsenal’s failure to sign a striker during the summer window could be the factor which scuppers their hopes of winning the Premier League.

Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the Gunners’ primary options at the moment, but neither have the ability to carry the team’s goalscoring burden for a full season.

Havertz has blown hot and cold since his £60 million move from Chelsea last summer, and he is not the long-term solution to Arsenal's striker problem.

Initially signed to bolster the central midfield area, his inability to impose himself during games saw him moved to the false nine position.

While Havertz has weighed in with a few goals, he is wasteful. It is a similar story with Jesus, who is yet to score for Arsenal this season.

Arsenal must sign a prolific striker capable of delivering goals. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson could be the long-term answer to the conundrum.

Ferguson Fits the Bill for Arsenal

Ferguson broke out in the 2022/23 season by spearheading the Seagulls to their first-ever appearance in Europe with ten goals and three assists in 25 appearances.

The Republic of Ireland international attracted interest from several clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, but he stayed on the south coast.

His stock fell after a disappointing second season during which he grappled with poor form and injuries, but he can still be the answer to Arsenal's attacking issues.

Several youngsters have recorded incredible debut seasons before suffering a dip in form the following campaign, and Ferguson's case is no different.

Ferguson will likely rediscover his best form following a lengthy injury lay-off, and Arsenal would be well-advised to make a move for him.

The 19-year-old fits the bill for manager Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard has shown he is extremely adept at improving young players.

Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have all become world-beaters under Arteta’s tutelage, and Ferguson would benefit from his expertise.

Irish Star Could be a Future Golden Boot Winner

An in-form Ferguson hitting his promising heights under Arteta could turn him into one of the bookmakers’ favourites for the Premier League Golden Boot.

Fans in his homeland would be eager to wager on Ferguson achieving the feat if he joined Arsenal given his connections to the Emerald Isle.

The Gunners have a long history of signing talented Irish players and the Brighton youngster could be the latest to make his mark with the club.

Bettors on the sportsbooks listed on Dundalk sport IE would be clamouring to wager on Ferguson’s goalscoring exploits if he signed for Arsenal.

His arrival at the club would also impact Arsenal’s odds of winning the title for the first time since their success in 2003/04.

The Irishman could be a shrewd long-term buy for Arsenal, particularly given that he would not currently command the same fee previously demanded by Brighton.

Figures in the region of £100 million were touted when Ferguson first broke onto the scene, but Brighton would be lucky to get £50m now.

His injuries mean he is behind Danny Welbeck, Joao Pedro and Georginio Rutter in the pecking order, and he has had limited opportunities to shine in recent weeks.

Sitting on the bench will reduce his transfer value even further and the Seagulls may be tempted to cash in, allowing Arsenal to buy him at a moderate fee.

A new environment could be the spark he needs to start fulfilling his immense potential, and Arsenal should explore the possibility of signing him in January.
