Prologue:

Arsenal head into a massive clash at Stamford Bridge in Sunday's crunch London derby against Chelsea on the back of a frustrating 1-0 Champions League defeat at San Siro against Serie A giants Inter Milan. 

The defeat to Hakan Calhanoglu's clinical spot-kick moments before the interval at the imposing Stadio Meazza on Wednesday evening came on the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss at St James's Park to Eddie Howe's Newcastle last weekend. 

It's been a busy spell on the road for the Gunners, as prior to that they made another long trip in the League Cup, to Deepdale  at the end of October, where they despatched Preston 3-0.

Enzo Maresca's Blues head into the game in good spirits having beaten FC Noah 8-0 in the Europa Conference League.

The former Leicester boss has steadied the ship, following the departure of Mauriccio Pocchetino at the end of last season. After a challenging pre-season in which the Italian had to shed a number of high profile squad playes - including Raheem Sterling to North London, the former Foxes boss has seen results pick up, which saw Chelsea move to fourth place following the 1-1 draw against Manchester United last weeend. 

Sunday's eagerly-awaited London derby promises to be a cracker.

Blues kingpin Cole Palmer is likely to return after his recent injury.

Boss Maresca is expected to make widescale changes to Thursday’s side with Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia set to return.

Arsenal

Declan Rice is a major doubt for the Gunners after picking up a foot injury at Newcastle. While boss Arteta could not confirm whether Rice had suffered a broken toe, striker Kai Havertz suffered a head injury during the defeat at the San Siro and is also a big doubt. 

The good news is that Martin Odegaard is expected to feature after making his first appearance in Arsenal colours since August 31 at the San Siro.
