Premier League 24/25: Liverpool, City and Arsenal, will it be a three-way challenge? What the bookmakers think
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is flying high at the top of the English Premier League. According to the bookmakers, this year’s tournament will be similar to last year’s. The Citizens, Liverpool and Arsenal will fight to the end for the crown, while Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspurs and the currently uncoached Manchester United will argue over the fourth position.
We are writing about the best football league in the world, so it should come as no surprise that there are a lot of teams capable of winning. In this highly competitive environment, it will not only be interesting to follow the title race with bookmakers’ predictions, but also the relegation and top 4 finishing odds. Since the Premier League 24/25 is already a lot of fun (and things are only going to be better in the next months), let’s check what the bookmakers think about the three giants and who could finish fourth.
A three-way challenge at the top of the Premier League 24/25
Let’s see what we can expect from the three biggest teams - at least on paper - in this Premier League.
Liverpool
The Reds didn’t lose any of their clashes, except for the game against Nottingham Forest, and can count on a dynamic coach like Arne Slot, winner of the Dutch Eredivisie. Three superstars like Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are in the final year of their contracts and lifting a trophy can play a big role in their chances to stay at the team.
Arsenal
The London side added a couple of very good players this summer, like the Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori and the journeyman Raheem Sterling. Mikel Arteta fought with Manchester City for nine months last year, and lost in the end. However, his team is clearly the second favourite to win the league.
Arsenal and Liverpool played last weekend and the game was, as expected, amazing to watch. The final result was 2-2, which is fair judging by what the teams expressed on the pitch. The Reds lost their position at the top of the table after that match.
Manchester City
You don’t win 4 Premier Leagues in a row by chance. Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest in his line of work and City can afford pretty much every player on the planet, so the Citizens are the clear favourite for the bookies. Plus, the Catalan is in the final year of his contract and there are speculations that he could move somewhere else. Before doing that, he’d like to win every possible trophy.
Who will sit by the podium?
The race for the fourth position is going to be entertaining as well. Everyone wants to play in the Champions League and you could do just that by finishing in fourth position. Chelsea seems a good bet, given their roster. By the way, Tottenham showed everyone their talent several times already and can end up before Enzo Maresca’s side in the end. Manchester United has fewer points but will have a new coach soon and, who knows? Maybe he will shock everyone.
Relegation risk
Let’s move to the end of the table, shall we? There are teams with ambitions of winning and teams hoping to play in the next Premier League. The last three in the list are going to leave the first division and, obviously, nobody wants to do that. Southampton, Wolverhampton and Ipswich Town seem the three worst teams in the league, at the moment, but Crystal Palace isn’t faring any better.
The table changes on a weekly basis but, for now, these teams really seem stuck in the mud. They lack talent and solutions and the Premier League 24/25, as always, is going to be unforgiving to those who don't show to be top-notch. According to the bookmakers, Leicester City and Everton are risking relegation, too. Right now, though, these two teams are playing well enough to defend their place in the Premier.
