Arsenal interim head coach Renee Slegers praised her side after the Gunners beat Valerenga and West Ham following Jonas Eidevall’s resignation.
Speaking to the Gooner Fanzine after Arsenal’s 2-0 win at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, Slegers reflected on an emotional week for the Gunners.
“We’ve been sad obviously as a team,” said the interim manager. “But what we dealt with really well is the uncertainties that are ahead of us. We just tried to stay in the moment as a team and I think the players have done that really well.”
Captain Kim Little had called on Arsenal’s leadership players to step up following Eidevall’s resignation, and Slegers felt they had done so.
“I think I said it before, they’ve gone to it themselves, they’ve got themselves together and spoke about what they can do, how they can contribute to success for the team and the club and I think they’ve done that really well the last couple of days.”
Asked if she felt relieved to have made it to the international break having won both games, Slegers said: “Yeah, of course. This is what we wanted. We had these two games ahead of us and we wanted to win, and we did that, so I’m very happy.”
