Arsenal Women interim head coach Renee Slegers said applying for the vacant managerial position is “not on my mind at all” following Jonas Eidevall’s resignation earlier this week.

Slegers took interim charge for a 4-1 Champions League win over Valerenga on Wednesday, and will lead Arsenal this weekend as the Gunners travel to West Ham.

The interim boss spoke to the media on Friday afternoon.

1. Slegers is fully focused on her current role as Arsenal hunt for Eidevall’s replacement

“I know that I’m appointed as interim coach, so that’s where my focus is now. I want to help the team at this moment, about the future, I have no idea.

“I like to be in the moment anyway, in life in general, and that’s what’s needed at the moment. That’s something we talk about with the players as well- can we be as much as possible in the here and now because this is what we can impact.

“It’s a beautiful club, a big club. It’s a great squad, all the facilities, all the resources. So it’s obviously a very good job to have and I’m have to be a part of this at this moment in time and doing everything I can to help.”

2. Praise for Arsenal’s player of the month Caitlin Foord

“I think she started the season really well for us. So she’s one of the players in really good form. She early on in the season scored important goals in important games.

“I think that’s obviously impacted herself, how she looks at herself, also how others look at her. When players are in good form you always need to build on that momentum.

“There’s a lot of other players who also performed really well on Wednesday, which is very good to see. We have more and more players in good individual form.”

3. Lina Hurtig’s return to action a “beautiful moment”

“That’s where you see how much the other players care, how much the staff cares. Seeing Lina with her daughter, with the fans, it was just beautiful to see.

“Very much needed for Lina, very much needed for the togetherness for everyone, so I think it was a beautiful moment.”
